This morning I got the coffee made, toasted a bagel, drugged up the
fluffball, and sat down at the PC. Ok, maybe it wasn't
morning anymore - I needed some sleep. Hey, it's been a long
week... Anyway, with half the day gone, I wanted to get moving
and get some shit done.
Checking
in to the Myspace home page I see a "New Friend Request". Nothing
strange there. So I look to see what's waiting. There's one
new request and a bunch of old ones, mostly bands I haven't checked out
yet. Ok, maybe it's time to go through these. I recently
dropped a bunch of people off the friends list (mostly female
loose-ends, coach) and wouldn't mind adding a few back.
But let's see just just how random these add requests can be. Sticking to the highlights:
A
Madrid-based musician with a project named "Stradivarious". It
would be neo-classical shred, with lots of Malmsteen trubutes, if the
guy could play guitar. And he made the Judas Priest instumental
cover sound like plugged-in Muzak. Next!
A veteran local
rock band with solid originals on the playlist. Influences are
said to include "Rolling Stones, Velvet Revolver, ZZ TOP, The Doors,
Mountain, Alice Cooper, CCR, The Kinks, Aerosmith, Johhny
Winter". Addded!
A 40-ish mom from an hour away in
NC. Cute little anime face. I'm sure she's nice.
Doesn't cost me anything to click 'accept'.
A ten-person co-ed
random jam band from Charlotte, that seems to play mostly around
Raleigh campus joints. Seriously??? "What started out
as a Drum Circle soon became..." Stop right there. Sit down
and write a damn song, then get back to me.
