Skipping Ahead a Little (Ok, a Lot)

I
have a habit of reading the last line of a book before I start
it. Gasp! How horrible that must be, ruining all the
suspense! But I gotta tell you, it usually works out really
well. The very last line does not usually give away the whole
story, but sometimes it adds to the intrigue. While reading I can
be wondering not just what happens to the characters, but how the
author got things to that particular end.
So, I hope that in
this column I can set you up the same way. There's a multi-part
blog just about ready to go. Today I thought of a perfect summary
to the whole piece, which fits nicely with a few other conversations
I've had lately. Here ya go...
In summary, it's quite simple. If
you treat your friends and suitors as distractions, as a relief from
everyday life, then they will never be a part of that everyday life.
