Some Writers Still Impress
Current mood: argumentative
Category: News and Politics
This
is not a piece about politics. It's about news reporting. I
pretty much gave up on it years ago. I don't bother much with any
mainstream news media. For one thing, I have never heard Sarah
Palin's voice, live or recorded (to be fair, I've not heard from Joe
"We Ran Out of Kennedys" Biden since quadruple-perjury-gate*).
There's nothing worth the time to read or hear when the most
substantial coverage the networks can manage is to cover the election
as a horse race.
There's not analysis of viewpoints, or issues
(beyond how they plan in the latest poll), and certainly nothing so
dull as actual principles. For one thing this excludes the
'minor' parties, removing the last hope of keeping the 'major' parties
remotely differentiable and principled [however contradictory those
rarely stated principles might be**].
Surprise - here's a piece
of actual analysis, carried up front with the mainstream news.
It's a short piece, about all this Age of Distraction will allow, but
it's a big step up from pieces like 'how many Hispanic female butchers
did Obama alienate yesterday?'
