I'd lost touch with just how dire American music has become.  I was starting to open up and listen happily to stuff like the current wave of semi-grown-up pop and the current flavors of growly-screamy metal.  Well, FUCK THAT SHIT.

Many thanks to Sonata Arctica for playing a FREE SHOW last night, at the Tremont Music Hall, after the headline act Nightwish lost the services of their frontman  (best wishes to Annette for a speedy recovery).  Let me remind the audience that these guys had a no. 1 album in Finland last year - they don't even need to be touring here, playing 300 person clubs, let alone going on for free.

The band was tight, the vocals were fantastic (thems is four voice harmonies, folks), the solos were shredding, and they had - A KEYTAR!


And the songs just rock.
