I take back the jab at Canada from yesterday  Canda it turns out is *not* a place where human feet wash up on beaches bythe half dozen. Actually Canada is a place where feet wash up on beaches _five_ at a time - and a place where the citizens are perverse enough to run with this as a hoax!

"The foot, which had been reported as the sixth found in a year on the coast of British Columbia, was actually an animal paw wrapped in seaweed stuffed inside a training shoe.

The foot was in a men's size 10, right-foot running shoe, sergeant Mike Tresoor said when the foot was found on Wednesday.

But in a terse news release the next day, the British Columbia Coroners Service said a forensic pathologist and an anthropologist had "determined a skeletonised animal paw was inserted into the shoe with a sock and packed with dried seaweed".

The coroner's release read: "It is the position of [the service] that this type of hoax is reprehensible and very disrespectful to the families of missing persons.

"It fuels inappropriate speculation and creates undue anxiety for families and communities while wasting valuable investigative time and resources."

Police said they would press charges against the hoaxer.

Five human feet have been found along the coast since last August, sparking speculation about a possible murder mystery, or that they are remains of airplane or boat accident victims. "
