Oh dear, I seem to have started a fitness group...
Current mood: anxious
Category: Sports
Ok,
I'm just a little bit bored with workouts in my garage. It's time
to get some other people working with me. I could stick to
running with the track club, but they're all runners. I could
join a gym again, and be stuck with dedicated barbell attachments who
can barely get out of their own way on foot.
Or, I could try to get people around to my way of thinking...
"Push,
Pull, and Run - be a complete athlete! This is a group workout,
generally weekly, that will rotate emphasis through strength and
endurance of upper and lower body. Learn to train, for life or sport,
in a practical, effective, and low-cost manner."
The main idea
is that each trainee will pick one pulling and one pushing exercise and
a running distance and make up a composite performance goal.
Training then is purely performance based, simple to follow, easy to
find motivation from, and effective at physique improvement as
well. [For example - I want to do 16 pull-ups, 16 dips, and do a
2 hour half marathon by this October]
http://fitness.meetup.com/748/ Meetings
are every Tuesday afternoon at 6 pm and every Thursday morning at 6:15
am. Workouts will alternate between strength and endurance
emphasis.
So, having just finished a tough set of intervals
with the Greenville Track Club, I'm due to get up tomorrow for a 6:15
am workout. Yippee... p.s. - you may have heard of
Crossfit. It rocks. It's also very tough. This is
grossly simpler, and can work for a much less 'elite' group, but the
aims are similar.
