Taxes and Gravity
Current mood: adventurous
Category: Travel and Places
I
rented a campsite last weekend for one night (there are other pics up,
go look). I was surprised the State park even charges for simple
tent sites, but it's only $12. Fine. I took the dogs and
off we went.
Remember, this supposed to be camping.
There's no bellhop to haul my pack the 4 miles down to the lakeside
spots. And there sure as hell wasn't an escalator to make the
climb back.
Room service? Bring a fishing pole - they
stock the lake. And for climate control: wait for spring.
Yep, that's real outdoorsy camping stuff. Nothing surprising
about that.
What was surprising is that my $12 camp site came to $15.67.
 They
put state and local accomodations tax on the camp site! The same
taxes that apply to a steak dinner at a stuffed-suit-museum or a
downtown hotel room are applied to a flat(ish) bit of dirt in the
woods. At least the sales tax wasn't compounded on the other
taxes (I checked).
And it wasn't all that flat, as discovered when trying to sleep at a slight but annoying tilt.
