Capital Crimes
Current mood:  apathetic
Category: Life

Capital crimes, those for which the state may seek to terminate the perpetrator, should not necessarily be the crimes of the most serious effect.  It should be for the most incorrigible elements in a society, those who do things for which there is simply no excuse, like standing up a date or thinking a cigarette butt is not trash.  Ideally, I would be the one who gets to draw up the list.  Item 1:

"A dog who was the mascot of an Upstate animal shelter for 10 years was found dead, his back legs tied together.

Workers at the Cherokee County Animal Shelter in Gaffney found Red's body near the gate on Monday afternoon. Red, who was a chow-mix, had been missing since Friday.

Judy Wyles, with the animal rescue group Project Zero, said it appeared that Red's back legs were tied with a green plastic clothesline and that he was dragged behind a vehicle.

The dog's body was too badly damaged for an examination to determine the cause of death."

What they deserve is immaterial. It's that *we* don't deserve to have them in our midst.

"Police said the death of an animal shelter’s pet was not being treated as a case of animal cruelty.

Red, a chow mix, had lived at the Cherokee County Animal Shelter in Gaffney for the past 12 years.

Police said the dog went missing on Friday and its body was found near the shelter’s gate on Monday afternoon.

Investigators said a neighbor of the shelter noticed a funny smell near their home on Sunday and discovered the dog’s body. The neighbor told police that the body was badly decomposed.

Police said the neighbor did not feel it was safe to pick up the decaying body so he tied it to the bumper of his car with green plastic clothesline and drug it to the nearby shelter.

Shelter workers said they found the body while crews were cutting grass.

Police said they believe there was no foul play involved in the dog’s death."
